Buzzkill Privacy

Buzzkill helps you spend less time in selected apps using Apple’s Screen Time APIs. The app is private by design: it works on your device, does not create an account, and does not send your personal data to a server.

1. Data We Process

Buzzkill does not run its own backend and does not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. All core processing happens on your device.

1.1 Screen Time data (selected apps only)

When you grant Screen Time permissions (via Apple’s FamilyControls / DeviceActivity APIs), Buzzkill can access usage information for the apps you choose inside Buzzkill. This may include, for those selected apps:

  • Time spent in the app
  • When you start or stop using the app
  • Whether your usage crosses a goal or threshold you set

This information is used only to power local reminders and insights. It does not leave your device.

1.2 Notification and goal settings

To provide reminders, Buzzkill stores:

  • Which apps you’ve selected to monitor
  • Your goals, limits, and intervals
  • Notification preferences (for example tone, language, and timing)

These settings are stored locally on your device in the app’s container.

1.3 Local app events and logs

Buzzkill may keep lightweight, on-device logs such as:

  • When monitoring starts or stops
  • When a reminder is scheduled or delivered
  • Internal errors used to diagnose issues

These logs are only stored locally and are not transmitted to us.

1.4 No account or identity data

Buzzkill does not:

  • Create a user account
  • Ask for your name, email address, or phone number inside the app
  • Collect contact lists, photos, or precise location
  • Track your identity across apps or websites

If you email us for support, we will receive the information you choose to send (such as your email address and message content). That information is used only to respond to your request.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the on-device data described above to:

  • Provide core features like app-specific reminders and usage nudges
  • Track your progress against the goals you set
  • Adjust timing, content, and frequency of reminders based on your preferences
  • Keep a short, relevant history of your usage for recent insights

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.

3. Data Storage and Retention

All app data is stored locally on your device in the Buzzkill app container (and, where applicable, in secure iOS system storage).

Usage history is kept only for a recent window that is useful for your reminders; older entries are automatically pruned.

Your settings and preferences are kept until you change them or remove the app.

If you uninstall Buzzkill, iOS deletes the app and its local data from your device.

If your device is backed up (for example with iCloud or Finder backups), a copy of Buzzkill data may be included in those system backups under Apple’s control.

4. System Permissions

Buzzkill relies on the following iOS permissions:

  • Screen Time (FamilyControls / DeviceActivity)
Used to let you choose which apps to monitor and to read usage information for those selected apps. This is required for the core functionality of Buzzkill.
  • Notifications
Used to deliver local reminders about your usage and goals.

You can change or revoke these permissions at any time in your iOS Settings.

5. Data Sharing and Transfers

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.

We do not share your personal data with third-party advertisers or analytics providers.

We do not transfer your usage data to our own servers.

Data remains on your device unless you choose to share it (for example via system backups or screenshots you send to someone).

Because we do not send your data to our servers, there are no international transfers of your personal data by Buzzkill.

6. Crash Reports and Diagnostics

Buzzkill does not include third-party crash or analytics frameworks.

If you use TestFlight or enable Apple’s system diagnostics:

  • Apple may collect crash logs and diagnostic data for Buzzkill.
  • Apple may share aggregated crash information with the developer through Apple’s tools.

These reports are handled under Apple’s own privacy policies, not this document.

We use any crash information we receive only to improve the stability and reliability of Buzzkill.

7. Children’s Privacy

Buzzkill is intended for individuals who are at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided information to us through Apple channels (for example via TestFlight feedback), please contact us and we will work with Apple to address the issue.

8. Security

We take the following approach to security:

  • All processing of Screen Time data and settings happens on your device.
  • We rely on iOS security features, such as app sandboxing and device-level encryption, to help protect your data.
  • We do not operate servers that store Buzzkill user data.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, including any passcodes, biometrics, and backup settings.

9. Your Rights and Controls

Because Buzzkill does not maintain user accounts or centralized logs, most privacy requests can be handled directly on your device. You can:

  • Change or revoke permissions
Manage Screen Time and notification access via iOS Settings.
  • Update or remove settings
Open Buzzkill to adjust your selected apps, goals, and reminder preferences.
  • Delete local data
Uninstall Buzzkill to delete the app and its local data from your device.

Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU/EEA, UK, or Switzerland), you may have additional rights under local data protection law. If you believe such rights apply to you and you have a question or request related to Buzzkill, contact us using the details below. Because we do not maintain server-side user records, we may ask you to perform certain actions directly on your device (such as uninstalling the app) to fulfill your request.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we:

  • Add or change app features
  • Use new Apple APIs that affect your data
  • Need to comply with updated legal requirements

When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the bottom of this page. In cases of material changes, we may also highlight the update in the app or on our website.

11. Contact
